Mr. Piper has extensive experience in start-up company development in founder, investor, board member, and executive roles. His experience encompasses intellectual property assessment, building strong development and management teams, raising private investment and government funding, securing strategic partners and bringing products to market.
Mr. Piper recently launched Anticipate Ventures (www.anticipateventures.com), a product venturing and investment company. Mr. Piper previously co-founded and was President, CEO and a Board Director of QM Power, Inc. (www.qmpower.com), the world’s most efficient commercial refrigeration and HVAC electric fan motor developer and manufacturer. Mr. Piper joined QM Power from Aspen Aerogels, Inc. (NYSE: ASPN www.aerogel.com), the world’s highest performance insulation manufacturer, a company he also co-founded as CFO. At those ventures, Mr. Piper raised almost $200 million in equity, debt and Government grants and contracts; secured strategic partnerships with the National Labs, leading industrial conglomerates and channel partners; implemented IP innovation and stage gate review processes for new product development; developed robust $100 million plus global supply chains and manufacturing in China, the US and Mexico; established world class systems and controls (ERP, CRM, SOX); identified and hired key management teams while managing multiple order of magnitude increases in headcount; launched social media and marketing campaigns; initiated utility rebates and incentives; and commercialized the electric motor and aerogel insulation technologies in the HVAC and refrigeration, power generation, automation, consumer, oil and gas, industrial, automotive, apparel and military markets.
Before joining Aspen, Mr. Piper spent almost ten years in investment banking, commercial lending, mergers and acquisitions and derivatives marketing and management serving the Oil and Gas, Power, Project Finance, Diversified Manufacturing and Middle Market companies at JP Morgan Chase and CIBC World Markets. He is a former Board member of Triton Systems, Inc and Co-Founder and CFO of Aspen Products Group (fuel reforming).
